The design of this course is largely based on last semester’s course, with only some minor changes. We will read and discuss nine articles, your understanding of which will be tested in three quizzes and an oral exam. While the quizzes will follow the same pattern as that of the last semester (vocabulary and essay questions), the oral exam may (or may not) take a different (and more challenging) form. Again, there will be plenty of listening practices, both in class and at home (mounting to around seventeen). Up to five extra points will continue to reward those who do extra listening practices (one point for two practices); another extra point is for a well-organized portfolio of handouts at the end of the semester. One film screening is scheduled after each quiz to help you unwind, and more time will be devoted to a detailed discussion of the film. Besides essay questions in quizzes, you also need to submit three writing assignments (again more challenging than last semester's).
